When the grandchildren where very young, we invited them and their parents and a host of their friends every May 1 to a May Day Celebration on our property. We had fabulous times, with pot luck food, a maypole, games and the best of conversations! I wrote this for the children one year (in my continuing preoccupation with the soul)…
BOUNCING OFF THE SUN
A Children’s Story for EVERYONE
about Big Questions NO ONE ever answers
Come and see! You won’t believe
where we’re from and why we leave
the stars to live on earth below.
We’re here to see God’s love and grow
to be creators—did you know?
I can’t see love; it’s not a thing!
How can this be?
Look! Look here and there! Take in the view!
God paints the skies in bluest blue;
the grass, the trees in greenest green;
the rocks, the flowers in dreamy cream;
paints love in stars and things unseen.
SEE! SEE THINGS UNSEEN?
What do you mean?
How can this be?
It’s good to laugh; God lives there, too!
… in life, in death, in all that’s true;
in tears, in laughs, in red and white;
in dreams by day, in dreams at night;
in all that gives us peace and light.
SEE! SEE GOD IN TEARS?
See God in red and songs and fears?
See God at night, what do you say?
I sing, I dance, tra-la, Great Day!
God loves to bounce from sun to moon—
as you will find—yes!—very soon!
Just let your soul out, take a chance—
Oh, good for you—God loves to dance!
And this is more than sweet romance.
SEE! GOOD HEAVENS! SEE GOD DANCE?
You’d have to put me in a trance!
My soul, you say! Now what is that?
Tra-la! Bing-ding! Tee-hee! Splish-splat!
Indeed, God loves so very much
That just to keep us close in touch
(While we live here until we go
Back home out there with stars aglow)
Our souls vibrate with long ago.
SEE STARS AGLOW? INSIDE A SOUL?
What do I have—a big black hole?
A hole, a soul, that winks and blinks!
Tra-la! A soul! My, my! Me-thinks!
Oh, yes, I say, my name is God!
I’m in a tree, a swimming Cod—
I’m here and there—at times a Lamb,
I AM! I AM! I AM! I am
I’m force. I’m Love! Bright Light! Bim-Bam!
SEE GOD! SEE YOU? THE GREAT I AM?
